Hello friends,
Well, here we are. Amid the blustery pre-spring winds and the crazy goings on in the nation, I find myself testing the waters here on Substack. My initial goal was NOT to start writing on a forum for general public consumption, but to find a more organic format for our Blue Gate Farm newsletters…and as I said. Here we are. Please forgive my initial stumbling around as I try to learn this new structure, I am far more skilled (and comfortable) at growing food than I am at growing a type-written community.
So what is happening on the farm these days? We’ve just crawled out of 12” of snow and sub zero temps over the past two weeks and have risen blinking into a sudden taste-test of spring. It’s a bit of weather whiplash and if it has my farmer-brain grumbling about the stress on fruit trees and perennial plants and what it might mean for the growing season ahead, it still makes my winter-crumpled soul sing to feel warm sunshine on the soles of my feet.
So it’s time to stretch, to rise with our faces (and feet?) to the sun and start sowing the seeds. It’s what we do.
I am so glad you are here!
